INTRODUCTION: The report of events, gives a clear picture of the galore activities undertaken during the academic year 2016-2017. As usual St. Joseph School stood in total surrender to God, seeking the bountiful blessings of the Almighty and ever resourceful creator.
The academic began with a beautiful prayer service imploring God for his presence amidst us all throughout the academic year 2016-2017. Teachers in different committees: Discipline, Cultural, Students’ Council and Magazine meticulously planned various activities for the upliftment and overall growth of each student.
CELEBRATIONS: Goa Revolution Day- ‘Kranti Din’, World Population Day, National days, Bakri-Id, Goa Liberation Day, World Elder’s Day were effectively and meaningfully organized. Teachers’ Day was celebrated with great joy organizing a memorable program dedicated to the teachers thereby expressing gratitude towards their tremendous hardwork. Holy Mass was offered for the intention of teachers with the theme: YOU HAVE RAINBOW COLOURED OUR LIVES TOGETHER WITH GANESH CHATURTHI CELEBRATION. Christmas was celebrated as a grand occasion which highlighted the spirit of Christmas and the glad tidings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
SOCIAL MISSION: 1) A talk was given by Mr. Clinton Vaz on account of ‘SWATCHCHA BHARAT PAKHWADA’ providing information on Garbage and it’s Management: Collection, Segregation and Recycling. 2) Under ‘No Cost Cleanliness’ access road, pathway heading to school, cleaning of surrounding bushes were well taken care of. Similarly, playground, garden, library, staff room, hall were neatly maintained. 3) Around 30 students volunteered to clean ‘Nehru Garden’ at Gogol, Margao. 4) Talk by Dr. Trisha Torcato was organized on the topic of women hygiene and sanitation which covered aspects of personal hygiene such as brushing of teeth, wearing clean clothes followed by a movie shown to the students focussing sanitation. 5) As part of Christmas sacrifice students contributed generously towards gifting the poor families at Ambaulim, Quepem. 6) Students of Std X A & B attended workshop under the guidance of Fr. Nelson Lobo Capuchin Friary for a day and returned back fervently nourished.
TALENT SEARCH: Competitions such as Vegetable carving, Flower making, Drawing, Monologue, Greeting card making, Fancy dress, Mask making, Folk singing, Solo singing, Western singing, light vocal singing, Flower arrangement, Best Handwriting and a few more took place at school level, interschool and super school complex level in which many students showcased their talents and were awarded with different prizes and certificates.
APTITUDE TESTS: An aptitude test was conducted for young budding scientists. Numerous students have answered the scholastic MCT Exam.
SPECIAL EVENTS: On the event of ‘VANAMAHOTSAVA’ a skit was performed by a group of students. Also, Mr. Rajendra Kerkar conducted a talk along with a power point presentation in support of the above event. About 300 plants were distributed to the students which were sponsored by the forest department. Next, a graceful prayer service constituting of the theme: Children are the gift of god on the occasion of children’ day followed by an amazing program jointly organized by the teachers and students. Also, re-union of ex-students was organized P.T.A in collaboration with the senior teachers of the school for the first time. Teachers and students of the tenth grade attended recollection workshop on personality building and family values.
PARTICIPATION: 1) On the day of ‘Rakshabandhan’ handmade ‘rakhis’ designed by students were presented in an exotic manner at a function in Panjim. 2) Two students participated in the science exhibition organized by Damodar Higher Secondary School Margao in collaboration with S.I.E based on the principles of water purification and hydraulics. 3) Under environmental education various competitions like poster making, elocution, skits, computer drawing, power presentation on IT domain and model of energy conservation using clay were organized during which several students won prizes for the above mentioned activities. 4) Students of the tenth grade visited ‘NUSI’ at Assolna and ‘ONGC Corporation’ at Ipshem. Also, students of sixth grade paid a visit to ‘3 MTR’ to witness the military parade. 5) A group of students took part in the ‘Prabhat Phery’ on 18th June at the Lohiya Maidan. 6) On 23rd August 2016 Mass Singing of National Anthem was organized at 11:00am. 7) A few students participated in the Poetry recitation and drawing based on poems of Dr. Manohar Rai Sardessai which was held at the district library, Margao. 8) Some students participated in the inter-religion quiz organized by Carmel College and some other students actively took part in english literature quiz, elocution competition, faith sharing competition held at Carmellite Monestary and Rosary High School, Fatorda. 9) N.C.E.R.T officials conducted a survey for standard seventh under CCE.
CATHECATICAL ACTIVITIES: Special assemblies were conducted on various feasts and festivals. 1)A three day event inclusive of poster making, skits, prayer services and a short film was shown depicting life goals and missions of Mother Tereza. 2) Different Hymns were presented by all classes on the 8th September to pay a tribute to our Mother Mary. 3) Four classes conducted advent assemblies. 4) Another Special assembly was dedicated to St. Joseph Vaz. 5) Cathecatical week was celebrated with prayer services. 6) Biblical Quiz and way of the cross will be organized in the near future.
SPORTS ACTIVITIES: Sports benefits not only physical activity but it increases ones self-esteem and mental alertness of students. Under 14 and under 17 boys participated ‘Subrato M’ Tournament, DYSA for football, kabaddi, kho-kho, cricket, taekwondo and several other athletic events organized by DSYA. Miss Riya Castana and Miss Hazel Fernandes participated at district and taluka level Taekwondo further being selected to play at National Level. Apart from this, our school got an overall 1st place in state level taekwondo for the very first time. Our school won at taluka level kho-kho and 3rd place at district level.
GUIDING ACTIVITIES: The guides of Std VIII were taken on a hike to Curtorim Monte, where they participated in various activities and competitions. They prepared tasty dishes on fire wood. They also visited the Chandor village and the ancestral Menezes Braganza House
FEAST OF OUR PATRON: The feast of our patron St. Joseph will be celebrated very solemnly in March and the School Magazine will be released at the occasion.
CONCLUSION: I whole heartedly acknowledge the combined efforts of our staff, P.T.A, parents, students and all others who support us in incorporating a positive change towards the growth of our institutions. I humbly pray for God’s blessing upon all of us so that our diligence may bear abundant fruits in the coming generations.
